Waiting
For Each Other
by Nguyen
Binh (1937)
My dear, the neighbours
have not lit the lamps in their houses
I will come to you
after finishing the betel chew in my mouth
Living in the same
village are you and me
Going by the same
road, why bother being in a hurry
Somehow, I think
I have heard from them the faint rumour
That they know we
are somewhat having something… together
Who raises the winds
so the areca nuts become rather few
And the betel leaves
are damaged because of the heavy dew
