Lòng em như quán bán hàng, 
Dừng chân cho khách qua đàng mà thôi, 
Lòng anh như mảng bè trôi, 
Chỉ về một bến, chỉ xuôi một chiều.

Lòng anh như biển sóng cồn, 
Chứa muôn con nước ngàn con sông dài 
Lòng em như cánh lá khoai, 
Đổ bao nhiêu nước ra ngoài bấy nhiêu.

Lòng anh như hoa hướng dương, 
Trăm nghìn đổ lại một phương mặt trời 
Lòng em như cái con thoi, 
Thay bao nhiêu suốt mà thoi vẫn lành. 

Two Kinds of Heart

Your heart is like a small shop selling goods
For the travellers who only drop by, and will be gone for good.
My heart is like a raft in floating motion
Destined to moor at one dock, to flow in one direction

My heart is like an ocean with surging waves, full of water
Which can absorb ten thousand currents and thousands of long rivers
Your heart is like a sweet potato’s leaf
When water is poured upon, it will run off the leaf.

My heart is like a sunflower planted in the garden
No matter what happens, it still points in the sun’s direction
Your heart is like a loom’s shuttle in use
No matter how much yarn that has gone through, it still looks like new.
